The transatlantic relationship continues to be a key pillar for German security and prosperity. Though as Sino-US competition intensifies, Washington will increasingly be shifting its resources and strategic focus to East Asia. The United States’ security-focused foreign economic policy, which includes selective US-Chinese economic decoupling, has the potential to put Germany as well as the European Union as a whole into an increasingly difficult position, given its extensive economic ties with China and its continued dependence on the United States in terms of security. The WebTalk focused on Germany’s and Europe’s economic interdependencies and experts offered suggestions on how to best to mitigate related vulnerabilities.
