Ambs. Jeffrey DeLaurentis and Karl Eikenberry Join Stimson Center as Distinguished Fellows

Washington, DC – The Stimson Center is proud to welcome former ambassadors Jeffrey DeLaurentis and Karl Eikenberry as Distinguished Fellows. In the position, DeLaurentis and Eikenberry will provide trusted counsel and strategic guidance to the Stimson Center, drawing from their deep expertise in international security issues and extensive careers in public service.

Ambassador Jeffrey DeLaurentis served in the U.S. Foreign Service for 28 years, working exclusively on Western Hemisphere security issues and multilateral diplomacy at the United Nations. He served as Ambassador for Special Political Affairs at the U.S. Mission to the U.N. before taking up his post as Charge d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Havana, Cuba. In addition to his role with the Stimson Center, he is also the Joan M. Warburg Professor of International Relations at the Simmons University and an associate at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard. Read DeLaurentis’ full bio.

Ambassador Karl Eikenberry served as Ambassador to Afghanistan from 2009 to 2011 after a 35-year career in the U.S. Army, retiring as lieutenant general. In addition to his role at the Stimson Center, he is also the Johnson & Johnson Visiting Faculty Chair in Leadership at Schwarzman College in Beijing, China. Read Eikenberry’s full bio.
