The Stimson Center announced today that General Electric’s Kevin Cuddy will serve as the Center’s inaugural Trade, Technology and Security Fellow. The Center’s year-long Trade, Technology and Security Fellowship will increase collaboration among leading experts in industry, government, and civil society through research and analysis. As part of Stimson’s Trade, Technology, and Security program, the fellowship will examine how evolving trade policies intersect with rapid developments in technology, as well as U.S. security and foreign policy objectives. As a fellow, Cuddy will focus on technology transfers, additive manufacturing, and global non-proliferation programs.
During his fellowship at Stimson, Cuddy will continue to work as a Senior Manager for International Trade Compliance with GE in Washington, D.C. In this unique dual-role, Cuddy brings his many years of expertise in corporate export control and economic sanctions compliance to the world of non-proliferation to help improve industry and government connections and cooperation.
“I can think of no one more qualified than Kevin to serve as Stimson’s first Trade, Technology and Security Fellow,” said Rachel Stohl, Managing Director of Stimson’s Promoting Security and Prosperity initiative. “Kevin is an expert on trade compliance and policy. His insights will help identify new ways that civil society, industry, and government can work in common cause to generate policy solutions on trade and security issues. I am pleased to welcome Kevin to the team.”
Cuddy is a Senior Manager of International Trade Compliance with General Electric Company in Washington, D.C. During his tenure at GE, Cuddy has been responsible for the international trade compliance of the GE Digital business unit, in addition to leading the trade compliance team in Asia. Among his areas of expertise in the export control field are Asian export control laws and regulations, encryption and IT-related export controls, and restricted party screening. He is a member of the International Advisory Council of the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey and a Board member of the National Council on International Trade Development (NCITD). Prior to joining GE, Cuddy was an International Trade Consultant with the law firm O’Melveny & Myers LLP. He holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and Economics from American University.
