Andrew Hyde is a Senior Fellow with the Strategic Foresight Hub working on a range of national security issues including U.S. relations with Europe, multilateral diplomacy and institutions, as well as peace operations.
Prior to coming to Stimson, Andrew served for over three decades as a U.S. diplomat. During his Foreign Service tenure, he worked extensively on multilateral diplomacy at the global and regional levels, as well as specializing in U.S. relations with Europe and East Asia. Andrew served as the interim NATO Deputy Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan where he helped lead Alliance diplomatic efforts in support of NATO’s Resolute Support Mission. His previous State Department responsibilities involved U.S. support to the United Nations and a variety of regional multilateral organizations, building international partnerships to mitigate conflict, and reinforcing the U.S. partnership with Europe. His overseas postings included the U.S. missions to the EU, OSCE, UN and bilaterally in Europe and Latin America.
In addition to his diplomatic career, Andrew worked in the U.S. Congress as a State Department Fellow in the House Armed Services Committee and as a legislative assistant for Virginia Senator John Warner. He holds a master’s degree in National Resource Strategy from the Dwight Eisenhower School at the National Defense University and a BA in International Relations, Economics, and Political Science from Dickinson College. Andrew also has done graduate studies at the London School of Economics and Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
He writes and speaks regularly on a range of foreign policy topics to a variety of U.S. and international audiences, and is an adjunct political science professor at George Washington University, teaching U.S. foreign policy as well as a guest graduate-school lecturer on multilateral diplomacy.
