Dr. Lawrence Korb, senior
fellow at the Center for American Progress and a senior advisor to the
Center for Defense Information, will join us for a discussion on
military reform and innovation to face 21st century threats. Dr. Korb
argues that the focus on conventional confrontations, where the U.S.
military dominates, also leaves it less prepared to cope with irregular
threats that are more common in the post-9/11 world. Mr. Friedman
argues that the precautionary principle dominates the national security
establishment, which leads to wasteful spending on threats that are
unlikely to materialize. Should U.S. military strategy focus on
counterinsurgency or on potential future conflicts with rising powers?
What military reforms and innovation are needed to address the future
strategic environment?
