Join us for Japan Program’s launch of the latest volume of the “Views from the Next Generation” policy brief series. Japanese scholars examine how U.S.-Japan alliance cooperation should advance to meet ongoing and emerging challenges in the Indo-Pacific, including the alliance’s approach to regional threats, technology cooperation, economic security, and minilateralism. In this launch, the four authors will discuss their recommendations to enhance the alliance’s effectiveness and forge a stronger partnership.

Featured Speakers

Riho Aizawa, Research Fellow, National Institute for Defense Studies

Aizawa specializes in the U.S.-Japan security alliance and sea lanes in the Indo-Pacific region and the Arctic. She previously served as a Policy Research Fellow at the Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies and as a Research Intern at the Hudson Institute. She earned her MAfromthe Graduate School of Gakushuin Women’s College.

Ryosuke Hanada, Research Student, Macquarie University

Hanada has been a Research Fellow at the Japan Institute of International Affairs, researching Japan’s foreign policy in the Indo-Pacific region since 2016. He also worked for the Council of Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific. He holds an MA from the University of Warwick and a BA in Law from Waseda University.

Naritada Miura, Program Assistant, Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA

Miura previously interned at the Hudson Institute, focusing on the U.S.-Japan security alliance, Japan’s national defense strategy, and Japan’s economic security strategy. While attending University of Maryland, he conducted research on the Constitution of Japan. Miura holdsa BA in Government and Politics and a certificate in East Asian Studies.

Ippeita Nishida, Senior Research Fellow, Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Japan

Nishida also serves onthe Development Assistance Accountability Committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and he teaches at the Hosei University and the Aoyama GakuinUniversity. He previously was a research fellow at the Tokyo Foundation.He earned his MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics.
