Stimson South Asia Program Welcomes New Deputy Director

Today, the Stimson Center’s South Asia program welcomes Sahar Khan as its new Deputy Director and Senior Fellow. Khan, who previously served as a contributing editor for the South Asia program’s South Asian Voices publication, brings additional expertise on counterterrorism and nonproliferation to a program already well-known for innovative approaches to the region’s pressing strategic challenges.

Elizabeth Threlkeld, Director of the South Asia program, said, “I couldn’t be happier to welcome Sahar to the team as our new Deputy Director. Her strong familiarity with the region and background in security issues will add depth to our analytical work. She also brings valuable experience in both editorial and course curriculum design roles, which will allow her to guide projects across our engagement portfolio.”

“I am excited to be a part of Stimson Center’s South Asia program. I look forward to supporting the program’s mission of fostering dialogue, highlighting rising scholars and contemporary experts, and promoting stability within the region,” said Khan.

Prior to joining the Stimson Center, Khan was a defense and foreign policy research fellow at the Cato Institute, where she also completed her post-doctorate fellowship. She was also the managing editor of Inkstick Media, an online magazine focused on national security and foreign policy with an emphasis on elevating underrepresented voices and human security.
