Stimson Welcomes Samantha Turner as Nonresident Fellow

Washington, DC – The Stimson Center is proud to announce the appointment of Samantha Turner as Nonresident Fellow in its Peace Operations and Protecting Civilians in Conflict Programs. Turner brings expertise on practical national security policies and procedures for the future of warfare as well as human rights best practices within NATO. Turner comes to Stimson with more than a decade of experience as a practitioner in defense, development, leadership, and multilateral cooperation and consensus building.

“We are delighted to welcome Samantha Turner to the Stimson team as we grow our work on multilateral and regional institutions,” said Rachel Stohl, Vice President of Research Programs at Stimson. “Sam brings with her a wealth of knowledge on Women, Peace, and Security and will serve as the connection between that important issue and our existing work on Human Security and the Protection of Civilians. Sam’s expertise strongly compliments Stimson’s research, advocacy, and diplomacy expertise and her unique background in both civilian and military institutions gives Stimson a competitive advantage as we continue our work to bridge the gap between policy and practice.”

About Samantha Turner

Prior to joining Stimson, Turner served as Senior Advisor to USAID’s Gender office in the Biden-Harris Administration. Before USAID, Samantha served in the U.S. Department of Defense as the first head of the US European Command’s Women, Peace, and Security Program, directly advising the command, the US Military Representative to NATO, and the Chair of the NATO Committee on Gender Perspectives. She has held leadership roles within the department of defense, led Soldiers down range, and is a globally sought-after public speaker and thought leaderShe is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned master’s of science in civil engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. She has also received certificates from Stanford Graduate School of Business and Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.
