Taipei, May 19 (CNA) Former U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk praised President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) during their meeting at the Presidential Office Thursday for his efforts in consolidating Taiwan-U.S. relations during his eight years in office.
Ties between the two countries have “never been better,” said Kirk, who is leading a U.S. delegation to attend the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) on Friday.

The delegation includes former Deputy Secretary of State Ron Negroponte, American Institute in Taiwan Chairman Raymond Burghardt and Alan Romberg, the director of the East Asia program at the Stimson Center in Washington.
