Michael Krepon, Co-Founder of the Stimson Center and Director of Stimson’s South Asia Program, argued that the quest for deterrence stability between India and Pakistan will be as chimerical as it was between the United States and the Soviet Union. The work on which this talk is based will be included in a forthcoming Stimson Center volume on deterrence stability, escalation control and crisis management on the subcontinent.
Ambassador Linton F. Brooks, Independent Consultant and former Administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration, and George Perkovich, Vice President for Studies at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, served as discussants. Joshua White, Deputy Director of Stimson’s South Asia Program, presided.
