Phil Recchio

Phil Recchio is the former Director of Development at the Stimson Center. He comes to Stimson with over 15 years of nonprofit leadership, board management and major gift fundraising experience. Having previously led nonprofit organizations in business development, partnership and community building, and strategic planning, Phil is eager to engage new friends, philanthropists, and corporate leaders in supporting Stimson’s critical work. 

Previously, Phil raised funds for various nonprofits, from science to higher education to cultural institutions. Most recently, he led the Smithsonian’s Tropical Research Institute (STRI) international team, split between Panama and DC. From 2015-2022, he served at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), where he helped to launch the $160 million renovation of the David H. Koch Hall of Fossils – Deep Time. Additionally, he led the formation of American University’s Regional Advancement team, Harvey Mudd College’s Reunion Programming activities, and US Lacrosse’s annual fund, digital marketing, and database management. 

He holds a Master of Science in Organization Development from American University, and double majored in political science and religious studies during his undergraduate education at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY.
