Stimson congratulates Anne Richard on her confirmation as
the new Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration. In
taking on this role, she will resign from her position on Stimson’s board of
directors, where she has served since 2006.
Richard is currently vice president for government
relations and advocacy for the International Rescue Committee (IRC). She leads
IRC’s relations with the executive branch, Congress, and the NGO community, and
also guides its global advocacy efforts, working closely with IRC headquarters
in New York.
From 1999 to 2001, she was the chief adviser for budget and
planning for Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Prior to that, Richard
worked at the Office of Management and Budget, the State Department, and the
Peace Corps headquarters. She was a Presidential Management Intern, a fellow of
the Robert Bosch Foundation in Germany, an International Affairs Fellow of the
Council on Foreign Relations, and was part of the team that created the
International Crisis Group.
Stimson looks forward to Richard’s impact on humanitarian
efforts to provide aid for refugees and victims of conflict around the world in
her new role.
