Yun Sun quoted in Today Online on China’s improving relations with India

BEIJING — China and Russia have agreed to back a long-standing proposal by India at the United Nations to punish those who shelter and finance terrorism, a move which could upset neighbouring Pakistan.

“The agreement is significant in that it indicates China’s support of India and a potential rift between China and Pakistan. This is motivated by Xi’s unprecedented recognition of India’s emerging power status and a desire on China’s part to improve relations and coordinate positions with India. It is also motivated by the increasingly threatening terrorism challenges within China,” said Yun Sun, a fellow with the East Asia Program at the Stimson Center in Washington.
