“Myanmar officials have vowed privately to avoid
another ‘Cambodia incident’,” said Yun Sun, a fellow with the East Asia Program
at the Stimson Center in Washington, DC.
“But at the same time, they also made it clear that it
will not allow Vietnam and Philippines to turn ASEAN into an anti-China forum
this year.”
Tensions in the South China Sea have garnered little
attention in Myanmar and President U Thein Sein has sought to avoid the issue
where possible.
