Weaponization of Space Project

The Henry L. Stimson Center's Weaponization of Space Project aims to engage a diverse group of experts to concentrate talent on the difficult questions that surround this topic.  In doing so, it hopes to explore the linkages between the weaponization of space and broader areas of concern, such as arms control, commerce, cooperative threat reduction, and technology policy.

New Research and Issue Briefs

Space Assurance or Space Dominance?  The Case Against Weaponizing Space:
"Given the significant costs and risks associated with the weaponization of space, and the negligible military benefits this course of action would add to U.S. military superiority, Washington would be well advised to pursue initiatives for space assurance rather than space dominance."

Space Assets and the War in Iraq:  "Thanks to the use of space-based assets, U.S. military forces can apply lethal force with great precision.  As a result, victory can come sooner and at less cost to human lives."
