April 8, 2011 — Journalist Huma Yusuf joined us for a briefing on the role of Pakistani media on US-Pakistan relations. Ms. Yusuf is an award winning columnist and investigative journalist. She writes a weekly column in the leading Pakistani English daily, Dawn, focusing on topics related to security, terrorism, foreign relations and human rights. She recently earned the Best Column Award from the All Pakistan Newspaper Society. She is currently the Pakistan Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
Pakistan’s independent media is a new force influencing the tone and content of the US-Pakistan bilateral relationship. What role does Pakistan’s independent media play in the nation’s political and security affairs? How free is the industry? What impact does it have on the US’s public diplomacy efforts in Pakistan? How has the case of Raymond Davis been portrayed in the Pakistani media and what effect has this had on the US-Pakistan relations?
