We are entering an era in which a range of key activities and strategic relationships in the realms of foreign policy, global trade, and international security are being taken up by a new class of global actors. The nations of the Global South are increasingly capable and eager to bypass the North in the cultivation and management of international relations. This new global architecture includes the challenges of “Emerging Markets” such as China and India but also encompasses broader issues of international peace and security and a more diverse set of developing countries.
As part of our ongoing activities to better understand this emerging reconfiguration of the global order, the Center for Global Studies at George Mason University is pleased to invite you to a workshop on “Emerging Donors: Shifting Agendas in Development and Security.” It will bring together academics, researchers, and practitioners to identify the central questions relating to new South-South relations. As outlined below, the conference will be built around two panels –- one on new donors and economic development, the second on new donors and security –- a keynote address over lunch, and a final roundtable discussion.
