In light of declining reporting rates and uneven reporting practices, the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) is not living up to its potential as a tool for promoting arms trade transparency. Join the Stimson Center and the ATT Monitor for a discussion of ATT reporting trends and challenges as well as steps that can be taken to promote more comprehensive and transparent reporting in 2022. 2021 was the 9th driest year on record in the Mekong Basin. That’s making the 2022 dry season even drier and threatening agricultural productivity in the Mekong Delta. Upstream dams have begun releasing water for hydropower production. Does this help or hurt the Mekong and its communities during the dry season? What are the impacts to economies and ecologies in the region’s most important river system? How can Mekong countries adapt? Join the Mekong Dam Monitor team and discussants to explore the answers to these questions.

Simultaneous translation will be available for 5 local Mekong languages (Burmese, Khmer, Lao, Thai, Vietnamese)

Preventing and mitigating diversion of conventional weapons is a core component of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). Join the Stimson Center, Conflict Armament Research (CAR), and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) for an expert discussion of the ATT’s contributions to enhancing national efforts to tackle diversion. The event will introduce a new methodology for assessing the ATT’s impact on national counter-diversion measures and share preliminary insights from a pilot study examining the treaty’s impact on the national control systems of six ATT States Parties.

Join us for a panel discussion on some of the most urgent issues developing in the East China Sea. The security environment in the East China Sea is under continuous scrutiny for these waters’ key position in sea lanes and territorial disputes. Strengthening international norms at sea is an increasing challenge for the U.S., Japan, and partners in the region. In two consecutive panels, experts from Japan and the United States will discuss the evolution of maritime law and the developments in the strategic environment in the East China Sea.

This webinar will be simultaneously interpreted in Japanese.
