The 2019-21 Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) on cyber issues was a novel UN approach to including multilateral stakeholders in cyber discussions – but to what end and how can those efforts inform the first substantive meeting of the new OEWG that begins December 13, chaired by Singapore’s Ambassador Burhan Gafoor?

His Excellency Ambassador Jürg Lauber, Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the United Nations and other Organizations in Geneva, who chaired the first unique multi-stakeholder UN Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) on cyber earlier this year, and Ms. Allison Pytlak, Program Manager of the Disarmament Programme of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), who helped facilitate stakeholder input to the OEWG, will advise on ways to progress UN efforts and cybersecurity.

Kim Jong Un is entering his tenth year in power: what have we learned about his leadership style, priorities, and policies? And what does this mean for the future? Join the Stimson Center and the Sejong Institute for an expert panel that will delve into the issues that have shaped Kim Jong Un’s regime and what this might mean for the North’s domestic and foreign policy going forward.

Join Ambassador Ted Osius and Thao Griffiths for a book talk on the recently published Nothing is Impossible: America’s Reconciliation with Vietnam. Only fifty years after the end of conflict, international diplomacy has led to a renaissance in relations and Vietnam has become one of America’s strongest partners in Southeast Asia. This book talk discussion will build on Nothing is Impossible to explore the role that collaboration on addressing war legacies and rising challenges related to the Mekong River have played in supporting a strong U.S.–Vietnam relationship.

Simultaneous interpretation in Vietnamese will be provided. This event is supported by the War Legacies Working Group.
