Join us for a discussion unpacking the battlefield situation in Myanmar’s post-coup civil war.

Twenty months after the military coup provoked a nationwide resistance movement, Myanmar is seeing fierce fighting across an unprecedented expanse of the country. By one account, the share of Myanmar’s townships nationwide engaged in armed resistance grew from 59% in 2020 to 71% in this year’s first half. The National Unity Government, People’s Defense Forces, and partnered EAOs are engaged in active, daily, and deadly battles against the military junta.

Join us for a discussion to unpack the geography and current reality of Myanmar’s battlespace with Dr. Shona Loong. Dr. Loong was part of a research team that produced the “Myanmar Conflict Map,” a platform which tracks, visualizes, and analyzes violence in Myanmar, neatly categorized into six unique warscapes across the country. Dr. Zach Abuza of the National War College will serve as a discussant.
