Cosgriff Elected Vice Chairman of Stimson Center; Cutter, Piasecki, Porter Join Board

The Stimson Center announced today that Kevin J. Cosgriff (VADM Ret.) was elected unanimously to the post of Vice Chairman by the Center’s Board of Directors. Additionally, the Center announced that Bowman Cutter, Nicole Piasecki, and Zack Porter have joined Stimson’s Board of Directors.
 
“After distinguished service in the U.S. Navy, and to Stimson as a member of our Board of Directors, I am pleased that Vice Admiral Cosgriff will lend his vision and leadership as Vice Chairman,” said Stimson President and CEO Brian Finlay. “I am equally pleased to welcome Bo Cutter, Nicole Piasecki, and Zack Porter to our Board of Directors. The wealth of experience of this group situates the Center as an innovation hub for public and private solutions around complex transnational threats to security and economic prosperity. It is an exciting day for Stimson.”

Kevin J. Cosgriff is President & CEO of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association. Before retiring then Vice Admiral Cosgriff was Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command where he oversaw all naval combat, combat support, and maritime security operations throughout the Middle East and Southwest Asia area, including Iraq, Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa. He simultaneously commanded the U.S. Fifth Fleet and the Combined Maritime Forces. Vice Admiral Cosgriff was previously the Deputy Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia. Before that he served as Director for Warfare Analysis and Integration for the Chief of Naval Operations, and was the Director, Office of Program Appraisal for the Secretary of the Navy. During the Clinton Administration, he was the Director, White House Situation Room and Director of Systems and Technical Planning for the National Security Council. 
 
Cutter
 
Bowman Cutter joined The Roosevelt Institute in October 2009 as Senior Fellow and Director, Economic Policy Initiative after retiring from Warburg Pincus, a major global private equity firm headquartered in New York City, between 1996 and 2009 where he served both as the firm’s economist and as a leader in its international business, with particular reference to Asia. Cutter served with distinction during two Democratic presidencies — at the National Economic Council, from 1993-1996 and from 1976 to 1981, at the Office of Management and Budget. Cutter also served as leader of the OMB transition team after the election of President Obama. Cutter is currently the Chairman of the Board of CARE, the global development organization (where he has been a member of the Board for 17 years); and is a founder and current Chairman of MicroVest, a leading global microfinance fund.
 
Piasecki
 
Nicole Piasecki is Vice President and General Manager of the Propulsion Systems Division of Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA). Named to the position in March 2013, she is responsible for engine and propulsion systems strategy, procurement, contracting, engineering, and manufacturing integration for all commercial airplane programs, in addition to support for more than 12,000 in-service airplanes. Previously, Piasecki served as vice president of Business Development and Strategic Integration for BCA where she was responsible for the strategic planning and analysis critical to enhancing the long-term competitiveness of the business and driving growth. From November 2006 to January 2010, she was president of Boeing Japan, where she was responsible for developing and strengthening the company’s presence, managing business partnerships and pursuing new growth and productivity initiatives in Japan. 
 
 Porter 
 
Zack Porter serves as the Managing Partner and Director at Proteus Environmental Technologies, LLC. Porter is an inspiring young entrepreneur with experience in building new companies and a passion for sustainable seafood and aquaculture. Porter spent three years analyzing and developing aquaculture business plans, including studying the unique regulatory, geographic, environmental, and technological challenges facing aquaculture industry development. Porter was a finalist at the Kairos Global Entrepreneurial Summit in 2010 for his aquaculture business models. He also was recognized as a Renaissance Scholar by the University of Southern California for combining his entrepreneurial studies with oceanography. He worked for the United States Army Corps of Engineers, gaining an important understanding of the complex workings of the Federal regulatory process. Porter has also started successful businesses in footwear and physical fitness.
