Brian Eyler Joins Stimson's Southeast Asia Program

The Stimson Center announced today the appointment of Brian Eyler as Deputy Director for Stimson's Southeast Asia program. Eyler’s expertise will complement Stimson’s vital work on the food-energy-water nexus in the Mekong basin, as well as strengthen the program’s coverage of regional economic integration and connectivity, sustainable development, and human and environmental security. He joins Stimson Senior Associate Richard Cronin and Research Associate Courtney Weatherby on the Southeast Asia team.

“It is an honor to join Stimson's Southeast Asia team,” said Brian Eyler. “I look forward to utilizing my network and fifteen years of experience in Asia to deepen Stimson's outstanding work on transboundary issues in the Mekong region. “

Prior to joining Stimson, Eyler served as the Director of the IES Kunming Center at Yunnan University and as a consultant to the UNDP Lancang-Mekong Economic Cooperation program in Kunming, Yunnan province.  He has spent more than 15 years in living and working in China. Eyler co-founded the influential website East By Southeast that analyzes shared interests and challenges in regional cooperation between China and Southeast Asia. He holds a MA from the University of California, San Diego and a BA from Bucknell University.  His first book, The Last Days of the Mighty Mekong, will be published by Zed Books in 2017.
