Ambassador William Harrop: A Foreign Service Career Distinguished by Impact

In

Earlier this month the American Foreign Service Association honored former Stimson trustee Ambassador William Harrop with its 2015 Lifetime Contributions to American Diplomacy Award.  Stimson colleagues Lincoln P. Bloomfield, Jr and Barry Blechman reflect on Amb. Harrop’s distinguished career of service:

Stimson Chairman Lincoln P. Bloomfield, Jr:

“I consider it a great privilege to have worked with Ambassador Harrop on the Stimson board. His work for 39 years as a Foreign Service Officer and as United States Ambassador to Israel, Guinea, Kenya, Seychelles, and Zaire has advanced U.S. interests and represented the best of America’s values and commitment to a more peaceful, just, and prosperous world.  We are all in his debt.”

Stimson Co-Founder Barry Blechman:

“Ambassador Harrop has been a builder throughout his career. In his years in the Foreign Service he built on and expanded the influence of American soft power around the globe. For 10 years as a member of the Board of Directors at Stimson he helped guide a small think tank into one that’s now noted consistently among the world’s best. There is no one more deserving of receiving the American Foreign Service Association’s lifetime contribution award.”
