Humayun Hamidzada is a Nonresident Fellow at the Stimson Center affiliated with the Just Security 2020 program. He is Director of the Afghanistan Peace Research Project at the York University Centre for Asian Research in Toronto, Canada. A graduate of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Hamidzada comes to Stimson from the World Bank Executive Board in Washington, D.C., where he served as an Advisor to the Executive Director.
Previously, Hamidzada served as the Government of Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister of Finance for Policy (where he led preparations of the country’s national development strategy and corresponding funding mechanisms), Spokesperson to the President of Afghanistan, Founding Director of the Center for Policy and Human Development at Kabul University (where he led the Afghanistan Human Development 2007 on the Rule of Law), Co-Editor of the Special Issue on Afghanistan for the Journal on International Peacekeeping, Associate Research Scientist at the New York University’s Center on International Cooperation, and in senior management and advisory roles at the United Nations, the World Bank, and international development and humanitarian organizations.
In Canada, Hamidzada co-founded the Development Policy Group International and Afghanistan Canada Business Federation.
