Chinese Official Pays a Visit to Myanmar’s Opposition
YANGON, Myanmar-China’s vice minister for foreign affairs was warmly welcomed at the headquarters of the opposition National League for Democracy this week, where he visited in the hopes of furthering ties with the once-underground movement now considered the strongest contender for Myanmar’s 2015 elections.
“We are old friends,” said party spokesman Nyan Win, referring to Chinese official Ai Ping, who is part of the Communist Party’s central committee.

“The Chinese aren’t particularly competitive in Myanmar [now],” said Yun Sun, a China expert at the Stimson Center in Washington, D.C. “Chinese products and Chinese investment don’t have the best reputation there.”
