North Korea, Japan, Consultation on War Remains Switches the Atmosphere

North Korea and Japan reach a consensus on having Red Cross Conference on next week; however, there are many obstacles have to overcome. Experts expect two countries will negotiate on Japanese war remains in North Korea and move on the abduction issue.

According to Yuki Tatsumi, Senior Associate at the Stimson Center, it is not easy to Japan to take a step forward with North Korea, unless North Korea controls itself including short-range missile test. Even if Japan approach as humanitarian basis.

Tatsumi pointed Japanese official has to align with the U.S. government, and they are cautious enough to understand the North Korea’s strategy.
