WHAT’S ON THE AGENDA: It’s a busy day on Capitol Hill, with hearings on everything from the Coast Guard to Iran’s nuclear program. The Senate Armed Services Committee has a closed briefing on Afghanistan in the morning. And, at the White House in the afternoon, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are meeting with DoD leaders, also to talk Afghanistan.

EXPECT A NON-DEFENSE COMPONENT TOO: “You couldn’t get this through the White House if there weren’t a non-defense component,” the Stimson Center’s Gordon Adams told Morning D. So, expect to see infrastructure and non-defense R&D initiatives included in a separate list.
