MAB co-hosts conference on innovative dual-benefit model to implement UNSCR 1540
August 28, 2012
On July 12-13, 2012, the Managing Across Boundaries (MAB) program co-organized a conference with the Government of Poland and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) on implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1540, a nonproliferation measure. The meeting brought together a diverse group of states, multilateral organizations, civil society groups, and private industry to build broader security and economic capacity in countries from the EU Eastern Partnership, the Caucus, and Central Asia.
MAB's Eastern European engagement is part of the program's effort to bridge the security/development divide worldwide. Our "dual benefit model" focuses on national and/or regional needs in developing and emerging economics and identifies innovative linkages with "first world" priorities from counterterrorism and nonproliferation. By connecting high priority needs with novel streams of assistance and private-public partnerships, donor and recipient needs are met, sustainability is enhanced, and all at lower cost.
