In response to President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s call to action, the Stimson Center has initiated a project on technology and innovation against poaching and wildlife trafficking. During the development and execution of this project, we have partnered with the Kenya Wildlife Service, the Africa Peace Forum, technology experts at Linköping University in Sweden and a wide range of public and private sector stakeholders. This project is part of a broader effort to better manage global strategic challenges using innovative models for public-private partnerships.

During a recent trip to Kenya, Stimson and its partners documented this project in a short film titled: “Project Ngulia: Technology and Innovation against Poaching and Wildlife Trafficking.” The film can be accessed here

Currently in its initial phases, Project Ngulia focuses on safeguarding the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary in the Tsavo West National Park, Kenya – where 10 percent of Kenya’s black rhinos are located. It is scalable and replicable across a wider range of interconnected security and development challenges in East Africa and beyond.
