Middle East/Southwest Asia

The Middle East/Southwest Asia program looks at a wide range of regional issues, with a principal focus on the regional security agenda, from the Mediterranean to the Gulf.  In 2012, our research will continue to address the challenge of Iran, the security implications of Iraq and its reintegration in the region, and issues related to stability of the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council.  In addition, we are pleased to expand our work on the regional implications of the Arab uprisings that began in 2010.  A new project, Pathways to Progress: Peace, Prosperity and Change in the Middle East, will look at the regional economic and security repercussions of the political shifts, from North Africa to the Gulf.  Our activities include workshops, field research, international conferences, and publications.
