Seven UN peace operations are currently underway in Africa (Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia/Eritrea, Western Sahara, and two in Sudan). Nearly 80% of the more than 100,000 UN military personnel deployed worldwide are deployed in Africa. The African Union (AU) is also conducting two peacekeeping operations in Sudan and in Somalia.
