Jessen-Petersen, Guest Scholar at the
U.S. Institute of Peace and former special representative of the UN Secretary
General and head of the UN Mission in Kosovo, will join us for a discussion on
the future status of the UN-administered province of Kosovo. The Secretary General has
instituted a Dec. 10th deadline to reach an agreement on final
status. Kosovo Albanian leaders have signaled their intention to unilaterally
declare independence from Serbia before the deadline. With
Security Council member states at odds over the province’s final status, what
steps can be taken by the international community to mitigate the impact of such
a declaration?
