DateWednesday, September 21, 2005
LocationDupont Circle Conference Room

The Southeast Asia Project is sponsoring this invitation-only roundtable discussion to assess the nature and implications of the growing economic integration of the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China. The discussion will address broader U.S. policy issues arising out of China's growing regional role, as well as domestic political economy issues for Southeast Asia countries due to increased competitive pressure on politically sensitive economic sectors; the possible natureof the new economic "division of labor" arising out of the freer flow of goods and investment; and the expected growth of China's regional political influence.

Guest discussants include Her Excellency Chang Heng Chee, Ambassador of Singapore; Dr. Catharin Dalpino, Visiting Associate Professor, Georgetown University; and Mr. William Zarit, Foreign Commercial Service, US Department of Commerce.

The meeting will be not-for-attribution to facilitate free and open discussion.
