Regional Security in the Horn of Africa
| Date | Friday, May 15, 2009 |
| Location | US Capitol, Room HC-7 |
Dr. Terrence Lyons, associate professor of Conflict Resolution at the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Research (ICAR) at George Mason University, will join us for a discussion on regional security in the Horn of Africa. What links exist among the conflicts in Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia? Is there spillover into Sudan? How does Somalia’s status as a failed state provide the platform for ongoing acts of piracy in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean? Does effective bilateral cooperation exist between these states and the US to address instability in the region?
Security for a New Century is a bipartisan study group for Congress. We meet regularly with U.S. and international policy professionals to discuss the post-Cold War and post-9/11 security environment. All discussions are off-the-record. It is not an advocacy venue. Please call (202) 223-5956 for more information.
