North Korea: Nuclear Agreement and Beyond
| Date | Thursday, March 22, 2007 |

Selig Harrison,
Asia Program Director at Center for International Policy, discusses the
recent North Korean nuclear agreement. Further talks are now
beginning on the February 13 denuclearization agreement, which was
concluded by North Korea, the United States, China, Russia, Japan, and
South Korea. Selig Harrison has visited North Korea ten times and has
been a leading advocate of engagement with Pyongyang. He will address
the following key questions in his presentation: Is North Korea
prepared to dismantle and abandon its nuclear weapons program
completely in the six-party negotiations, including its suspected
uranium enrichment program? What quid pro quo will it expect for
complete denuclearization? What should future U.S. policy be in the
Korean peninsula if North Korea agrees to denuclearize? What if the
negotiations break down?
