Tomohiko Makino and Akihito Fukui will examine the Japanese response to health security incidents in recent years, and share their perspectives on Japan's ability to respond to current CBRN threats.

 

Tomohiko Makino is a Visiting Fellow at the Stimson Center's Global Health and Security Program. Before coming to the Stimson Center, Mr. Makino worked in the public health security field at the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare. He is currently pursuing a joint MPH/MBA at Johns Hopkins University to supplement his medical training at the University of Tokyo.

 

Akihito Fukui has served at the Japanese Ministry of Defense since graduating from the University of Tokyo in 2002. Before coming to the United States, Mr. Fukui was in charge of civil protection (including CBRN defense issues), disaster response and counter-piracy. He is currently an EMPA candidate at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University.
