Charles Duelfer spent over a decade probing the Saddam regime and its WMD programs as deputy chairman of the UN Special Commission on Iraq and later as the head of the CIA's Iraq Survey Group. Duelfer has examined how US intelligence got Saddam's WMD wrong and how Saddam got the US wrong. In his new book, he argues that Washington used intelligence about WMD that was wrong, but ignored intelligence about the internal dynamics of Iraq that was correct. Ultimately, the later mistake was the more costly. Duelfer also highlights from firsthand experience the different universe that Saddam saw and acted upon. Please join us to discuss his unique perspectives on the Iraq tragedy.

Praise for the book:

"Duelfer spells out how we got into the tragedy of Iraq. He was there-Baghdad, the CIA, the State Department, the White House, and the United Nations. Iraq did not need to be this bad. Read this and learn what to avoid in the future."

-Governor Bill Richardson, Former US Ambassador to the UN

"No American understood the Saddam Regime better than Charles Duelfer. In Hide and Seek, based on his personal experiences, he identifies the tragic miscalculations on both sides stemming from avoidable ignorance. Duelfer has a keen sense of history and he pulls no punches. For policy makers and analysts on Iraq, Iran and North Korea, Hide and Seek is destined to become the definitive reference. For the rest of us, it is a fascinating educational experience."

-Chuck Robb, Former Senator and co-Chair of the WMD Commission
