| Date | December 11-13, 2011 |
| Location | Dar es Salaam, Tanzania |
The Stimson Center, George Washington University, and WHO/AFRO will co-host a workshop from December 11 - 13, at the 4th African Epidemiology Network (AFENET) conference, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The meeting will highlight the implementation of IHR (2005) in the context of the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) strategy. The workshop will discuss progress and share perspectives in strengthening core capacities for IDSR and IHR in the African region, and will help frame the case for sustainable investment in integrated disease surveillance and response, laboratory, and public health workforce capabilities.
The workshop will include representatives from donor organizations with interests in East and South Africa, regional government officials, and other stakeholders. The meeting will contribute to a growing dialogue on operational aspects of the revised IDSR and IHR - including a better understanding of the costs and of the benefits for health systems strengthening.
