Elections in Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan
| Date | Monday, March 23, 2009 |
| Location | Cannon House Office Building, Room 122 |
Dr. Kenneth Katzman, senior Middle East analyst for the Congressional Research Service (CRS), will join us to discuss the pivotal elections in these three key Middle East nations that will occur in 2009. Iraqis have recently voted in local elections, while presidential elections are looming in Iran and Afghanistan. What impact have the elections in Iraq had on the situation on the ground? What are the possible outcomes and consequences of the Iranian and Afghan elections in June and August respectively? What are the policy implications of these crucial elections for US foreign policy in the region?
Security for a New Century is a bipartisan study group for Congress. We meet regularly with U.S. and international policy professionals to discuss the post-Cold War and post-9/11 security environment. All discussions are off-the-record. It is not an advocacy venue. Please call (202) 223-5956 for more information.
