India and China appear poised to dominate the global economy within the next fifty years if they
stay on their present trajectories. Yet both countries may face a future more uncertain, complicated,
and potentially conflicted than is generally recognized. Beijing and New Delhi have entered on the
early stages of a jarring economic transition that is creating new winners and losers and new policy
challenges in each country. As this transition accelerates, existing social institutions have little time
to adapt, opening up possibilities for violent change. What institutions currently exist to prevent
such potential upheavals? Will new institutions need to be created to manage the challenges ahead?
What are the implications of the ongoing shift of economic power from the West to the East?
Please join us for a discussion of the rise of China and India with Prem Shankar Jha on the occasion
of the release of his latest book, Crouching Dragon, Hidden Tiger: Can China and India Dominate the
West?
