DateFriday, November 16, 2007
LocationSenate Dirksen, Room G 11

Dr. Peter DeShazo, director of the CSIS Americas Program, and former deputy assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere Affairs, will join us for a discussion on Colombia’s record in reversing instability and economic distress.  He traces the formulation and approval of Plan Colombia during the administration of President Andrés Pastrana and the subsequent policies of President Alvaro Uribe.  DeShazo has examined Colombia's progress in key areas from 1999, the year Plan Colombia was launched, to the present, including: security, governance, the peace process, human rights, narcotics, and social and economic issues.
