There are few issues more consequential than the nuclear competition in South Asia. Nuclear dangers in the region are growing along with stockpiles. Diplomacy is falling behind increased nuclear capabilities. Deterrence stability cannot be assumed.
Strategic analysts need new tools in order to enhance deterrence stability and reduce nuclear dangers on the subcontinent. At the end of this course, students will be able to:
-Describe the motivations behind India and Pakistan’s nuclear programs, doctrines, and postures;
-Analyze the major challenges to nuclear stability in South Asia; and
-Propose innovative confidence-building and nuclear risk reduction measures.
