Lessons Learned for Stabilization in Syria

Syria’s complex conflict poses a significant set of challenges for the United States. The Stimson Center, in cooperation with the US Institute of Peace, gathered a group of experts over the past six months to identify some “lessons learned” from previous US experiences with conflict stabilization.  Understanding both the successes and failures in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Balkans holds particular merit, and could help to improve the effectiveness of stabilization and transition efforts in Syria.

Please join us at the Stimson Center for the release of the study group’s report. The program will include a presentation by Mona Yacoubian, the report author, and discussants James Schear, former Department of Defense official, and Ann Vaughan of Mercy Corps. Schear and Vaughan were both members of the study group.
