As the Commission on Global Security, Justice & Governance marks the U.S. launch of their new report Confronting the Crisis of Global Governance, Stimson Senior Associate William Durch discusses the significance of its recommendations. The report by the nonpartisan 14 member commission led by former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former Nigerian Foreign Minister and U.N. Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Ibrahim Gambari, offers far-reaching recommendations to reform the U.N. and global governance institutions to better address new global challenges posed by conflict–affected states, climate change, and the hyper-connected global economy.
“Success in these issue areas and for the report’s recommendations would be to build more effective global governance institutions, that include many levels of stakeholders in a way that’s considered legitimate and accountable,” said Durch.
