Alan Romberg quoted in Yonhap News Agency on talking to North Korea

WASHINGTON, Oct. 24 (Yonhap) — Informal talks with North Korea, such as last week’s meetings between Pyongyang diplomats and former U.S. nuclear negotiators, wouldn’t hurt as they could be helpful in better understanding each other’s position, U.S. experts said Monday.

“While ramping up sanctions is seen as a way to raise the costs to the point where the North will rethink its nuclear weapons policy, I don’t see this meeting as inconsistent with that approach,” Alan Romberg, a distinguished fellow at the Stimson Center, told Yonhap News Agency.
