Dean Cheng, a senior analyst at the Center for Naval Analysis Corporation, presented his research on Chinese military space doctrine to a meeting attended by members of the NGO community, government representatives, and members of the media.
Mr. Cheng presented an overview of China's space capabilities and emphasized that many Chinese satellites are dual-use in nature. He also traced the evolution of Chinese military space doctrine from Mao through the present and highlighted the interconnections between outer space and information warfare. Mr. Cheng also expressed his belief that Chinese space doctrine has been heavily influenced by Chinese observations of Desert Storm, US military actions in Kosovo, and the War in Iraq.
